Global Logistics & Transportation Manager

This position is responsible for leading and overseeing the logistics and transportation for the supply chain and operations across the organization. Ensuring the efficient movement of goods, cost optimization, regulatory compliance, risk management, alignment of business goals and growth. This role involves strategic planning, operational execution, continuous improvement, P&L responsibility, high-level strategy, and executive reporting and plays a critical role in enhancing transportation and logistics supply chain performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic Global Logistics Management
  • Lead global logistics and transportation operations across all transportation modes (ocean, drayage, rail, truckload, flatbed, LTL, and parcel) to ensure cost-effective, reliable, and efficient logistics solutions.
  • Develop and implement a transportation strategy that aligns with supply chain and distribution objectives, optimizing service levels and cost.
  • Manage carrier performance, quality, and cost through benchmarking, scorecards, and data-driven analysis.
  • Financial Oversight & Freight Cost Optimization
  • Oversee freight billing audits, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting to accounting.
  • Drive cost optimization strategies, including premium freight accountability and third-party billing corrections.
  • Develop financial controls and reporting mechanisms to support cost-effective, high-service logistics solutions.
  • Global Trade Compliance
  • Provide leadership on global trade compliance, import/export regulations, and customs processes, ensuring adherence to international trade laws.
  • Oversee HTS classification, antidumping, countervailing duties, tariffs, and free trade agreements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, ensuring streamlined import/export operations.
  • Operational Excellence & Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and provide strategic direction to logistics team members, including global supply chain personnel.
  • Develop and institutionalize best practices, training programs, and controlled processes to enhance logistics performance and compliance.

Education, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, or Supply Chain Management
  • Advanced Industry Certifications are desired

Work Experience Requirements:

  • 8+ years progressive experience with international and domestic transportation, logistics or supply chain management for a distributor with multiple sites

Technical Skills or other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of International Shipping, Documentation, and overall compliance.
  • Understanding of North American Inbound port processing including Container Ships, Drayage, Intermodal Hubs, Rail systems and FCL & LCL delivery.
  • Knowledge of conducting business in Mexico. To include border crossing, customs brokerage, transportation and IMMEX program.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
  • Strong decision-making skills and an understanding of where projects fit into overall strategic planning.
  • Strategic thinking – ability to establish the vision and future direction to enable to organization to maintain a leadership role in the professions and industry
  • Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external customers, lead conversations/meetings and influence others.
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic work environment and manage competing priorities
  • Drive cross-functional projects to support new strategic initiatives and business opportunities for the organization.
  • Work closely with others in the logistics/transportation industry. Support local traffic clubs and other organizations that Field would benefit from.
  • Attended trade shows Inland Distribution, Parcel Forum, or other logistic/freight conferences that would add value to Fields supply chain.
  • Ability to travel to other FIELD facilities, Customers and Vendors as required.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook knowledge.
  • Strong written/communication skills to interact with internal and external customers and suppliers.
