This position will work directly with sales and engineering, Peak customers and internal Peak team members providing fastener and bolted joint testing and consulting services. The position requires a mechanical engineering background coupled with a practical mechanical aptitude and is accustomed to working in a team environment.
Essential Functions:
- Commit to PEAK and FIELD’s Mission Statement, Core Values, and Fieldamentals.
- Perform design analysis/problem resolution to assist in developing engineering designs.
- Work directly with customers to determine testing protocols to meet customer needs.
- Execute testing programs through a combination of hands-on lab work and coordination/supervision of PEAK lab technicians. Testing capabilities include, but are not limited to, torque-angle, torque-tension testing with load cells, and in-joint torque-tension testing utilizing ultrasonics.
- Analyze experimental data (i.e., torque, angle, clamp load) to determine joint, fastener, and assembly characteristics and author test reports based on customer and project requirements.
- Provide technical direction to engineering support personnel.
- Maintain effective communication with internal/external customers.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
- Utilize strong time management, analytical, and leadership skills with a commitment to being detail oriented.
- Take on additional responsibilities and demonstrate flexibility in both work schedule and work environment based on business needs.
- Travel to support business activities between 10-25% which may include some overnight travel.
Education, Skills and Experience Required:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in an engineering role
- Polite and professional manner.
- Be highly motivated, well organized, and think independently.
- Proficient in MSOffice with ability to utilize/learn computer tools such as MC911, Stanley Alpha Toolbox, and others as appropriate.
- Basic knowledge of clamp load measurement techniques beneficial (e.g., ultrasonics, strain gauges, physical bolt length measurement, etc.).
- Basic machine shop and fixture design skills.
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
- High level of interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of statistical and mathematical tools.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to learn and understand basic fastened joint design practices (e.g., clamp load, external forces, joint components, fastener design).
- Ability to learn and understand standard assembly plant fastening methods (e.g., torque, torque & angle, torque to yield).
- Understanding of design and manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design.
- Fastening design or test background preferred
- Knowledge of fasteners and fastening applications is beneficial.
- Automotive experience a plus
- Prior experience with 3D CAD software beneficial
